Король французского театра XIX века Викторьен Сарду писал пьесу «Тоска» специально для великой актрисы Сары Бернар. Увидев этот спектакль, Джакомо Пуччини тут же понял, что в пьесе есть всё для оперы – страсть, любовь, политика, красавица, мерзавец, героизм, секс, смерть – и немедленно попросил своего издателя купить права. А потом требовал от либреттистов сокращать и сокращать, чтобы не осталось никаких длиннот, и действие развивалось молниеносно.
Наверное, в этом и состоит секрет популярности «Тоски»: смесь мелодрамы и триллера с захватывающим действием, яркими, контрастными персонажами, карнавалом эмоций, великолепными мелодиями и искусной оркестровкой.
«Тоска» Королевского оперного театра в Лондоне – роскошный спектакль 2006 года в духе классика Франко Дзефирелли: с шикарными костюмами, точно сделанными в стиле эпохи Наполеона – а именно в контексте борьбы Наполеона за Рим, где он воспринимался как носитель прогресса, и происходит обернувшаяся трагедией драма любви певицы и художника. Мало того, каждая сцена «Тоски» происходит в реальных, хорошо известных местах Рима – церкви Сант Андреа делла Валле, палаццо Фарнезе и на крыше замка Святого Ангела.
Солистка Мариинского театра Елена Стихина – харизматичная красавица с прекрасным голосом и отличными актерскими данными – уже блистала на нескольких оперных сценах «первой лиги». Но этот спектакль -- ее дебют в Королевском оперном театре в Лондоне, который мы также знаем как Ковент Гарден, и дебют более чем просто удачный. Стихина полностью владеет вниманием публики с первой и до последней ноты, равно великолепна в разных регистрах пения и разных эмоциях героини. Нет сомнений в том, что Тоска – из лучших партий этой звезды нового поколения.
В партии Каварадосси сравнительно молодой, но уже широко известный итало-британский тенор Фредди де Томмазо, в последний момент заменивший заболевшего Брайана Химеля (именно поэтому в кадрах с репетиций и интервью перед спектаклем выступает один певец, а на сцену выходит другой). Коллега Стихиной по Мариинскому театру Алексей Марков великолепно создает далекий от ходульности образ утонченного мерзавца, шефа полиции барона Скарпиа. Дирижирует этим спектаклем известная в Европе украинская дирижер Оксана Лынив – и оркестр охотно отвечает её решительному жесту. Добро пожаловать в Рим... простите, в Лондон на роскошную «Тоску» с отменным ансамблем исполнителей.
ACT I
Cesare Angelotti, a Consul of the former Roman Republic,
has escaped prison and seeks refuge in the Church of
Sant’Andrea della Valle. The painter Mario Cavaradossi, a
Republican sympathizer working in the church, promises to
help him. Angelotti hides as Cavaradossi’s lover Floria Tosca
arrives. The lovers’ meeting reveals Tosca’s passionate love
and jealousy. When Tosca has gone, Cavaradossi instructs
Angelotti to dress in the disguise left for him, and hide at
Cavaradossi’s villa. Baron Scarpia arrives at the church. He
suspects Cavaradossi of hiding Angelotti. When Tosca returns,
Scarpia uses a fan left by Angelotti to make her believe that
Cavaradossi is having an affair. Tosca leaves for Cavaradossi’s
villa, and Scarpia instructs his assistant Spoletta to follow her
and track down Angelotti.
ACT II
Scarpia has arrested Cavaradossi. He summons Tosca to his
apartment, and forces her to listen as Cavaradossi is tortured
in the next room. Tosca reveals Angelotti’s hiding place.
Scarpia condemns Cavaradossi to death but tells Tosca that
he will free her lover if she will offer herself to him. In agony,
Tosca agrees and Scarpia tells her he will arrange a mock
execution. As Scarpia embraces Tosca, she fatally stabs him.
ACT III
As dawn approaches, Cavaradossi waits for his execution at
the top of the Castel Sant’Angelo. Tosca arrives and tells him
what she has done. She instructs him on how to pretend to
die in the mock execution. When the soldiers shoot, Tosca
is impressed with her lover’s acting. But Scarpia has doublecrossed her and Cavaradossi really is dead. As Spoletta’s men
arrive to arrest her for Scarpia’s murder, she leaps from the
battlements to her death.
